Out of curiosity who manufactured the drives? I've had really good success with my hitachi and western-digital based drives. My toshiba and maxtor ones, well, they didn't fare as well but they did last at least 5-8 years. And this is why I love the new “time machine” software.

My hard drive shit a brick last tuesday and was in the ICU until Thursday when it actually died and I got a new machine.
