I was surprised to discover that it was my shoulders and chest, not my calves and thighs, that were the sorest this morning, presumably from the push-ups needed to resume the sport.

I had the same thought this morning.
I went skiing yesterday, dragged Joemamma along for the ride too. It’s definitely my legs that have been crying “owie” all day today. I’m guessing yer shoulders and chest are hurting from all the knuckledragging you boarders do :-P>
