Jealousy

Today is going to be a difficult day. I will work, as usual, drive home, as usual, go to the gym, as usual, take a shower, as usual, and then watch the football game. Alone. This is highly unusual.

Most football games occur on Sundays. And on most Sundays, Mike’s sister Kate comes over and we eat a mixture of junk food and quality dinner while enjoying the football. Sundays usually go like this: wake up, shower, choir practice, church, chit-chat, cook, football, eat, football, eat, football, laundry, dishes, TV, sleep. Yesterday, however, was odd. Had to go for choir practice early, church lasted nearly double-length, and no football. Kate still came over, and I still made some food (nachos).

After that, though, we went on an adventure! After some stops to change out of church clothes, we headed out. First, to Firestone – but despite being open, they would not fix Mike’s tire (which had a nail plugging a hole in the tread). Next, to Dick’s, the sporting goods store. We spent quite a bit of time there shopping for snowboarding gear, while not spending any money yet. Kate found an awesome jacket and snow pants set that was pink and brown. She can totally pull that off. I was less successful in finding awesome matchy-matchy sets, but I am somewhat confident that I’ll find something I like before it’s truly snowy. Mike was bored with that, so he eventually got us to leave.

Next stop, Home Depot. Never underestimate the power of feminine wiles over Home Depot employees. By batting my eyelashes and looking lost, I quickly got help finding the heating vent deflector I was looking for. Meanwhile, Mike spent what seemed like hours fussing with what kinds of parts he needs to fix the dryer vent. A small tank of propane was also purchased. In a happy accident while leaving the Depot, Mike turned into the mall parking lot. We were then staring down the entrance to the Sears Auto Center. Sweet. They were rude, but not as rude as Firestone, and they patched his tire in no time.

After that, it was on to the grocery store. Mike and Kate purchased themselves some hot dogs, associated buns (top sliced), relish and mustard, potato chips, sour cream and onion soup mix, and chewy cookies. We probably went back and forth across the length of the Stop & Shop at least 5 times. We brought the stuff (and Kate) back to Kate’s house, where she got off the adventure ride. Mike and I went back home, made dinner, ate dinner, and watched some silly TV. Thunderstorms and power outages entertained us for a short while.

Today, all of the previous days purchases (well, except for the dryer vent parts and heat deflector) will travel along a cooler and a grill in Mike’s car (which has a tailgate, and is technically an SUV) to Foxboro. I will not be in said car. *sigh*

Kate managed to get two tickets to tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the Patriots and the Colts from work. It is Mike’s turn to go to the football game with Kate (her dad got to go last year). If she gets more tickets, I may get a turn, but for now, I have to sit sadly watching the game on the TV. (It is a pretty nice TV, though, so I guess it could be worse.)

I briefly contemplated going to the local bar to watch the game, but I’m not really that kind of social butterfly. I also thought of inviting someone over to watch it with me. If anyone (that I actually know, not the other 200 or so unique visitors my site stats seem to think have visited – thanks Al!) wants to come over, I’ll totally make sure there’s a good variety of junk food around. I think I’ve settled my jealousy enough to watch the game alone, though.

I think I would be more jealous if it were baseball.
